Welcome Letter and Supply List
Congratulations! You have made it through 4th grade and will be continuing your adventures as an MKG 5th grader. Fortunately, you have been assigned to my class. I am so excited already to begin my 11th year as an MKG Soaring Eagle, which is my 25th year teaching, with you in September. But during the summer, you’ll find me either on the beach or walking at the Cape Cod Canal doing my favorite things …. listening to audio books and enjoying the sunshine, salt air, and ocean waves!
I'm thrilled to start this school year with a wonderful new group of students. We will use Google Suite (Classroom, Drive, Jamboard, and more) to stay organized and connected. Many of our learning programs will stay the same, such as ST Math, Envisions Math, and Discovery Ed Science. There will be some new online platforms to add to the adventure, too. While coming back to school is bittersweet, I am confident that we will take this learning journey to new levels and find success in ways we never expected.
I do plan to make sure we have a healthy balance of online learning and non-tech activities to fill our days. We will still have read alouds, Reading and Writing Workshop, Word Study, STEAM and Science projects, Math games, History and Social Studies assignments, and even partner and group work. Oh, and Specials will happen EVERY DAY!
The daily schedule, expectations for our classroom, and supply lists, as well as invitation codes to my Google Classroom, will be sent via email to parents. If there are any questions, I can be contacted by email at jmarinelli@middleboro.k12.ma.us.
I have included my class supply list (which has a few additional items not on the general 5th Grade list). The REQUESTED items need to be available for use by the end of the first week of school so we can label and organize properly and all together. It will also be important to design and set up a proper learning space at home that is quiet and has all materials handy. If you have any questions or concerns about any of the items on the list, please send me an e-mail. As a matter of fact, I’d love to receive an email from each family before school starts, so we can introduce ourselves.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on Wednesday, August 31st. Sincerely,
Mrs. Marinelli Grade 5 MKG

BOOK CLUB ORDERING...Book Club ordering is available at any time! I will close out orders on or around the 15th of each month. The only way I will be doing book club orders this year is through the online ordering system (You must pay by credit card only. I will not be collecting checks to send in.) As a bonus...our class gets extra bonus points for each online order!! Our class code is:
MGGKZ You can place orders over the summer months. I will approve and submit them in August so the students will receive their new books the first week of school! |
Website Links for Homework and Assignments
This button will bring you to the MKG Computer Lab website. Here the students will have access to all links and resources from Mrs. Bertelli, including XTRA Math and Typing Pal, which require passwords.
Brain Pop!

This link will be very helpful in building background knowledge and illustrating key concepts for many topics. Some assignments will require students to view a video clip and complete a graphic organixer or answer questions. The printables can also be found right on the website with the specific video clips.
